Discover Authentic Japanese Culinary Heritage with YAMASAN

Since its inception in 1995, YAMASAN has been committed to sharing the rich tradition of Japanese food culture across the globe. Specializing in carefully sourced traditional Japanese products such as miso, soy sauce, and tea, we recognized the growing interest from our international clientele and began to export our exquisite offerings.

Our passionate team embodies the essence of Japanese traditions, ensuring that you experience authentic Japanese cuisine, no matter where you are in the world.

Product Highlights: Unveiling Japan’s Top Gyokuro Regions

Among Japan's illustrious Gyokuro production areas is Asahina, located in Shizuoka Prefecture. This area is celebrated for its organic-certified tea gardens and is recognized as one of the three principal Gyokuro locales in Japan. Asahina boasts a rich history and advanced techniques in shaded cultivation, known as oishitaen, alongside a nurturing environment perfect for tea growth.

At our tea gardens, we practice a commitment to sustainability, shunning pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Instead, we leverage the natural resources provided by the sun, water, soil, and local flora and fauna, fostering a healthy ecosystem for both the environment and consumers.

Cultivation of Gyokuro: A Delicate Process

Gyokuro production is notably labor-intensive, taking longer than conventional green tea methods. The cultivation process begins 20 days prior to harvest, where the tea plantation is covered to block direct sunlight—a practice referred to as oishitaen cultivation.

In Asahina, traditional tea plantations still showcase the unique craftsmanship of "Komo," woven from straw. With Gyokuro’s limited yield—making up just 0.3% of Japan's tea processing—it is regarded as a rare and premium tea experience.

Artisan Processing: Excellence in Every Sip

For standard green teas like sencha, mass production often combines leaves from multiple tea gardens. However, at our small, organic-certified plantation, we pride ourselves on meticulous processing throughout the entire tea-making journey. This guarantees a refined and quality experience for each variety, including:

  • Organic Matcha Ceremonial Grade: Expertly blended for a brilliant green color and a subtle sweetness.
  • Organic Sencha Green Tea: The quintessential representation of Japanese green tea, rich in nutrients and catechins.
  • Organic Hojicha Roasted Green Tea: Enjoyable after rich meals or before bedtime, with reduced catechins and caffeine due to high-temperature roasting.
  • Genmaicha Brown Rice Green Tea: A comforting blend of Sencha, Matcha, and roasted brown rice, featuring lower caffeine content.
  • Organic Oolong Tea: A valuable choice with diverse flavors that evolve with each steep.
  • Organic Black Tea: Soft, fruity aromas paired with a delightful sweetness.

Experience the Brilliance of Gyokuro

Gyokuro stands out as one of the most exquisite teas in Japan, cherished for its rarity and quality. Our Gyokuro, sourced from the Asahina Mountains, is grown with an unwavering commitment to organic cultivation methods, ensuring harmony with the environment while nourishing the body.

Exceptional Quality from Asahina

Asahina, a district in Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is home to award-winning Gyokuro known for its delicate sweetness derived from the morning dew of the Asahina River. Our single estate tea blends two varieties, Okumidori and Yabukita, resulting in a refined taste celebrated worldwide.

In summary, at YAMASAN, our small-scale, locally-managed tea garden allows for conscientious production of premium quality tea. Experience the superior taste of Gyokuro, characterized by a rich umami flavor, a gentle sweetness, and an enduring, pleasant aftertaste that makes every sip a journey into Japan’s treasured tea heritage.
