Product Highlights: Unveiling Japan’s Top Gyokuro Regions
Among Japan's illustrious Gyokuro production areas is Asahina, located in Shizuoka Prefecture. This area is celebrated for its organic-certified tea gardens and is recognized as one of the three principal Gyokuro locales in Japan. Asahina boasts a rich history and advanced techniques in shaded cultivation, known as oishitaen, alongside a nurturing environment perfect for tea growth.
At our tea gardens, we practice a commitment to sustainability, shunning pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Instead, we leverage the natural resources provided by the sun, water, soil, and local flora and fauna, fostering a healthy ecosystem for both the environment and consumers.
Cultivation of Gyokuro: A Delicate Process
Gyokuro production is notably labor-intensive, taking longer than conventional green tea methods. The cultivation process begins 20 days prior to harvest, where the tea plantation is covered to block direct sunlight—a practice referred to as oishitaen cultivation.
In Asahina, traditional tea plantations still showcase the unique craftsmanship of "Komo," woven from straw. With Gyokuro’s limited yield—making up just 0.3% of Japan's tea processing—it is regarded as a rare and premium tea experience.
Artisan Processing: Excellence in Every Sip
For standard green teas like sencha, mass production often combines leaves from multiple tea gardens. However, at our small, organic-certified plantation, we pride ourselves on meticulous processing throughout the entire tea-making journey. This guarantees a refined and quality experience for each variety, including:
